Queen Bee Stool: Tutorial

We are excited to showcase a brand new product soon, but until then, you’ll have to settle for a stenciled stool tutorial!

We made these super cute stenciled stools to take with to the Farmgirl Flea this fall.  We wanted to show you how easy it is to add a stencil to just about anything to give it an updated look.

Here is a before of the stools:

Sand the top of the stools, then stencil with your favorite stencil.

We painted the base of the stools Vintage Market and Design Furniture Paint in Oxford.  We then clear waxed and clear coated them (just the base, not the stenciled part).

After the stencil has sat for a few days, we went over the entire top with a coat of stain.  We used a grey color slightly, just enough to act like a glaze.  We wiped it off right away.

We believe that things like imperfections make the piece, well, perfect!  If you are looking for an even coat of the stain/glaze, be sure to sand your stool top evenly, including the sides.  We think that unevenness gives the top character, so we went with it!

And there you have it!  A very simple way to update old stools that are laying around the house.
